Does the Quran deserve to be flushed down a toilet drain?
The May 9 issue of Newsweek vouchsafed that a new report issued by
the Southern Command ("SouthCom," which includes Guantanamo Bay)
would reveal that, "in at least one case," a Gitmo GI attempting to
interrogate Muslims "flushed a holy book [Koran] down the toilet."
Leftist writer Michael Isikoff and partner John Barry cited an
unnamed "senior U.S. government official" as the source for this tiny
paragraph, oddly out of place with the larger story in which it was
embedded. However, they did due diligence, Newsweek claims, by trying
to verify the story with two subsequent officials who, respectively,
gave no comment and did not specifically deny the charge. (The latter
did not deny it, because he knew little about the report in
question.) On the basis of one anonymous source, one "no comment,"
and one non-denial from an uninformed source, Newsweek pressed
forward with the damning release.
 Does
the Quran deserve to be flushed down a toilet drain? While the Newsweek
Quran desecration story has proved to be false, it is a fact that
countless American Flags have been torn to bits, trampled upon, and
burnt down in public in front of TV cameras. Should not the US take
punitive action against such thugs who have violated American honor?
Would we not be justified in sending a few cruise and Tomahawks
crashing down amidst these arsonists? That'll show them that
Americans are made of sterner stuff, and many more thousands of
potential arsonists would think twice before messing around with
American honor by turning up for more flag burnings. Thugs like these
only follow the language of blood and death, anything else is for
them a sign of weakness. Photo credits: US News

The trouble began when Pakistani opposition leader Imran Khan held a
copy of the prevaricating Newsweek story high aloft during a press
conference, thundering, "This is what the U.S. is doing, desecrating
the Koran!" Others helped Khan spread the Newsweek scoop. "The
American soldiers are known for disrespect to other religions. They
do not take care of the sanctity of other religions," chimed in Qazi
Hussain Ahmed, the pro-Osama chief of Jamaat-e-Islami ("Party of
Islam"), which calls for the "Islamization" of Pakistan.
Soon riots had broken out throughout the Muslim world, from Malaysia
to the Suez Canal, with violent crowds chanting "Death to America!"
and burning American flags – and U.S. and UN government buildings. A
Palestinian protestor stomping through the Jabalya refugee camp
raging, "The Holy Koran was defiled by the dirtiest of hands, by
American hands." The strongest of uprisings took place in the Afghan
mountain town and Taliban-stronghold of Jalalabad, with many
demonstrations led by "remnants of the Taliban" (with its legendary
tolerance for other faiths' religious symbols – Remember the Bamian
Buddhas?).
While the Newsweek story has proved to be false, it is a fact that
countless American Flags have been torn to bits, trampled upon, and
burnt down in public in front of TV cameras.
And to evaluate the message of the Quran,
we make a comparison of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,
and the Quran and see if it deserves to be flushed down a toilet.
The UN Charter on Human Rights
"Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and
inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the
foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world,
"Whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in
barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the
advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech
and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the
highest aspiration of the common people,
"Whereas it is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have
recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and
oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law,
"Whereas it is essential to promote the development of friendly
relations between nations,
"Whereas the peoples of the United Nations have in the Charter
reaffirmed their faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity
and worth of the human person and in the equal rights of men and
women and have determined to promote social progress and better
standards of life in larger freedom,
"Whereas Member States have pledged themselves to achieve, in co-
operation with the United Nations, the promotion of universal respect
for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms,
"Whereas a common understanding of these rights and freedoms is of
the greatest importance for the full realization of this pledge,
"Now, Therefore THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY proclaims THIS UNIVERSAL
DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as a common standard of achievement for
all peoples and all nations, to the end that every individual and
every organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind,
shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these
rights and freedoms and by progressive measures, national and
international, to secure their universal and effective recognition
and observance, both among the peoples of Member States themselves
and among the peoples of territories under their jurisdiction.
Now compare this with the Quran
Quran: 2/2 This is the Scripture whereof there is no doubt, a
guidance unto those who ward off (evil)
Quran 33/21 Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful
pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in Allah and the Final
Day, and who engages much in the Praise of Allah
Article 1. of the UN charter
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and
rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act
towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
Quran 4/144 O ye who believe! Choose not disbelievers for
(your) friends in place of believers. Would ye give Allah a clear
warrant against you?
Quran 9/28 O ye who believe! The idolaters only are
unclean. So let them not come near the Inviolable Place of Worship
after this their year. If ye fear poverty (from the loss of their
merchandise) Allah shall preserve you of His bounty if He will. Lo!
Allah is Knower, Wise.
Quran 4/101 And when ye go forth in the land, it is no sin
for you to curtail (your) worship if ye fear that those who
disbelieve may attack you. In truth the disbelievers are an open
enemy to you.
Quran 2/178 O ye who believe! Retaliation is prescribed for
you in the matter of the murdered; the freeman for the freeman, and
the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. And for him
who is forgiven somewhat by his (injured) brother, prosecution
according to usage and payment unto him in kindness. This is an
alleviation and a mercy from your Lord. He who transgresseth after
this will have a painful doom.
In Other words equality among human beings does not exist for the
Quran. One cannot speak of spirit of brotherhood if unbelievers are
declared unclean. Verse 2/178 also conflicts with Article 2 and 4.
Article 2 of the UN Charter.
Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this
Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, color,
sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or
social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no
distinction shall be made on the basis of the political,
jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to
which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-
governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.
Quran 9/29 Fight against such of those who have been given
the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid
not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not
the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being
brought low
Quran 9/5 Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay
the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and
besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent
and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way
free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Quran 9/123 O ye who believe! Fight those of the
disbelievers who are near to you, and let them find harshness in you,
and know that Allah is with those who keep their duty (unto Him).
Quran 4/34 Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath
made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of
their property (for the support of women). So good women are the
obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for
those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to
beds apart, and scourge them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way
against them. Lo! Allah is ever High, Exalted, Great.
Article 3 of the UN Charter
Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.
Article 4 of the UN Charter .
No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave
trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.
Quran 16/75 Allah coineth a similitude: (on the one
hand) a (mere) chattel slave, who hath control of nothing, and (on
the other hand) one on whom we have bestowed a fair provision from
Us, and he spendeth thereof secretly and openly. Are they equal?
Praise be to Allah! But most of them know not.
Quran 4/24 And all married women (are forbidden unto
you) save those (captives) whom your right hands possess. It is a
decree of Allah for you. Lawful unto you are all beyond those
mentioned, so that ye seek them with your wealth in honest wedlock,
not debauchery. And those of whom ye seek content (by marrying them),
give unto them their portions as a duty. And there is no sin for you
in what ye do by mutual agreement after the duty (hath been done).
Lo! Allah is ever Knower, Wise.
In other words the Quran considers Slavery a normal institution.
Muhammad the prophet also captured slaves, and raped slaves.
Article 5 of the UN Charter
No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or
degrading treatment or punishment.
Quran 5/38 As for the thief, both male and female, cut off
their hands. It is the reward of their own deeds, an exemplary
punishment from Allah. Allah is Mighty, Wise
Quran 24/02 The adulterer and the adulteress, scourge ye
each one of them (with) a hundred stripes. And let not pity for the
twain withhold you from obedience to Allah, if ye believe in Allah
and the Last Day. And let a party of believers witness their
punishment
Quran 24/04 And those who accuse honorable women but
bring not four witnesses, scourge them (with) eighty stripes and
never (afterward) accept their testimony - They indeed are evil-
doers -
Article 6 of the UN Charter
Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before
the law.
Article 7of the UN Charter
All are equal before the law and are entitled without any
discrimination to equal protection of the law. All are entitled to
equal protection against any discrimination in violation of this
Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination.
Quran 2/282 O ye who believe! When ye contract a debt for a
fixed term, call to witness, from among your men, two witnesses. And
if two men be not (at hand) then a man and two women, of such as ye
approve as witnesses.
In other words for the Quran it takes two women to equal one man as
witness.
It is similar with unbelievers.
In Western societies, if a woman does not consent to make love,
civil law of western law considers this as rape, plain and simple.
However the Quran does not ask women. It takes into account only the
will of the husband.
The Prophet said, "A matron should not be given in marriage except
after consulting her; and a virgin should not be given in marriage
except after her permission." The people asked, "O Allah's Apostle!
How can we know her permission?" He said, "Her silence (indicates her
permission)."
Since little girls usually are silent, every year countless girls are
married against their will!
Quran 2/223 Your women are a tilth for you (to cultivate) so
go to your tilth as ye will,…..
Article 17 of the UN Charter
Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in
association with others.
No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.
Quran 8/1 They ask thee (O Muhammad) of the spoils of
war. Say: The spoils of war belong to Allah and the messenger, so
keep your duty to Allah, and adjust the matter of your difference,
and obey Allah and His messenger, if ye are (true) believers.
Article 18 of the UN Charter .
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and
religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or
belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in
public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching,
practice, worship and observance.
Bukhari
Volume 9, Book 83, Number 17:
Narrated 'Abdullah:
Allah's Apostle said, "The blood of a Muslim who confesses that none
has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that I am His Apostle,
cannot be shed except in three cases: In Qisas for murder, a married
person who commits illegal sexual intercourse and the one who reverts
from Islam (apostate) and leaves the Muslims."
Hadith:
Ali burned some people and this message reached Ibn Abas, who
said: "If I was him, I would not have burned them, because as the
Prophet had said: "Don´t punish anybody with the punishment of
Allah!" There is no doubt; I would have killed them too, because the
Prophet had said: "If a (Muslim) takes off his religion, then kill
him.
Quran 4/89 They desire that you should disbelieve as they have
disbelieved, so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not
from among them friends until they fly (their homes) in Allah's way;
but if they turn back, then seize them and kill them wherever you
find them, and take not from among them a friend or a helper.
Article 19 of the UN Charter .
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this
right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to
seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and
regardless of frontiers.
Quran 33/60-61 If the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts
is a disease, and the alarmists in the city do not cease, We verily
shall urge thee on against them, then they will be your neighbours in
it but a little while.Accursed, they will be seized wherever found
and slain with a (fierce) slaughter
Hadith:
Sunan Abu Dawud
Book 38, Number 4348:
Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas:
A blind man had a slave-mother who used to abuse the Prophet and
disparage him. He forbade her but she did not stop. He rebuked her
but she did not give up her habit. One night she began to slander the
Prophet and abuse him. So he took a dagger, placed it on her belly,
pressed it, and killed her. A child who came between her legs was
smeared with the blood that was there. When the morning came, the
Prophet was informed about it.
He assembled the people and said: I adjure by Allah the man who has
done this action and I adjure him by my right to him that he should
stand up. Jumping over the necks of the people and trembling the man
stood up.
He sat before the Prophet and said: Apostle of Allah! (Yimach Shmo –
May his name and memory be obliterated) I am her master; she used to
abuse you and disparage you. I forbade her, but she did not stop, and
I rebuked her, but she did not abandon her habit. I have two sons
like pearls from her, and she was my companion. Last night she began
to abuse and disparage you. So I took a dagger, put it on her belly
and pressed it till I killed her.
Thereupon the Prophet said: Oh be witness, no retaliation is
payable for her blood.
Sunan Abu Dawud
Book 38, Number 4349:
Narrated Ali ibn AbuTalib:
A Jewess used to abuse the Prophet and disparage him. A man
strangled her till she died. The Apostle of Allah declared that no
recompense was payable for her blood
In other words. Who kills a critic of the Prophet is not to be
punished. Thus someone who criticizes the Prophet or Islam has to
live in fear of being killed. This is an implicit limitation to the
right of freedom of opinion and expression.
It appears from the above passages that the Quran is an
Instruction Manual for Injustice, Murder, Torture and Terror.
Now you be the judge, a document like the Quran, does it deserve to
be flushed down the toilet? And are the unholy Muslims right in
declaring a holy (sic) war because of a report of the Quran allegedly
being flushed down into its rightful place?
